Sarcasm boosts sales of T-shirts

A caustic comment by Joey Logano after Sunday's NASCAR race has led DeLana Harvick to proudly boast that she wears the firesuit in her family through the sale of T-shirts proclaiming that status.

A day after Logano sarcastically forgave NASCAR veteran Kevin Harvick following a late-race incident in Long Pond, Pa., by saying that his wife, DeLana, "wears the firesuit in the family, tells him what to do," she turned the intended slight into inspired merchandising.

Fans can purchase T-shirts through Harvick's website (KevinHarvick.com) that read "I wear the firesuit in this family."

DeLana is a fixture in the NASCAR garage and is co-owner of the couple's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series teams. She wears a firesuit like those worn by her husband and pit crew members during races.

■ PARENTAL ABUSE -- It can be tough being a kid, especially when your parents are imbeciles.

Michel Lagravere became the youngest novice bullfighter at age 12 to perform in Mexico City's main ring Sunday when he killed his first bull.

Moments later, however, the boy stumbled when facing his next 800-pound bull and was knocked to the ground.

His father, also a bullfighter, said his son suffered only bruises. The boy told AP Television News from a stretcher that he was left "with a good taste in my mouth" from his appearance.

Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, a child estimated to be about 4 had a tasty encounter with a beer bottle during Sunday's Phillies game.

Video shows the child with a beer bottle to his mouth.

Phillies spokeswoman Bonnie Clark said the team hasn't been able to identify the youngster or the adults next to him. She said it appears to be "a very brief event, probably involving an empty bottle."

"Obviously, the Phillies, like everyone else, would not want a child to be permitted to consume any alcoholic beverage," she said.

Several visitors to The Philadelphia Inquirer's website joked the recent slide of the Phillies was driving even children to drink.

There has been no rationale given, however, for allowing a 12-year-old to fight bulls.

■ TALLADEGA FATS -- Don't look for Nutrisystem or Weight Watchers to join NASCAR as sponsors, though it certainly would be a bull market.

By popular demand, Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway will offer its All-You-Can-Eat ticket package for Oct. 30 and 31 NASCAR races. The offer sold out for the track's April races.

For $89, a fan will receive a reserved seat ticket and an all-you-can-eat voucher valid for two hours Saturday and Sunday of the race weekend. Each trip to the concession stand allows a voucher holder to receive a maximum of two sandwiches (two hot dogs, two hamburgers or one of each), two bags of chips and two soft drinks.

The limited hours should be considered a healthy decision.

No wonder NASCAR is such a good market for Tums.
