Sidewinders trip up 51s

Esmerling Vasquez and three Tucson relievers combined to lead the Sidewinders to a 5-4 Pacific Coast League victory over the 51s on Sunday at Tucson, Ariz.

The 51s jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Terry Tiffee RBI single and an error by Tucson third baseman Jamie D'Antona.

The Sidewinders scored once in the third and twice in the fourth with Vasquez driving in the go-ahead run against the 51s' Jason Johnson (9-4).

Las Vegas tied the game in the seventh when Rex Rundgren singled to score Angel Chavez. The Sidewinders came back in their half of the inning to take the lead when D'Antona drove in Trent Oeltjen.

Robby Hammock added an insurance run with a homer in the eighth for Tucson (31-47).

The 51s scratched across a run in the ninth, but John Lindsey was called out on strikes to end the game.

The 51s (41-37) have lost five straight.
