Snider’s first-inning bomb paces 51s to rout over Redbirds

Travis Snider belted a three-run homer in the top of the first inning, providing all the runs the 51s needed in an 11-0 rout of the Memphis Redbirds on Wednesday in a Pacific Coast League game at Memphis, Tenn.
After Adeiny Hechavarria and David Cooper got one-out singles, Snider took Nick Additon deep over the center-field wall. Jason Lane capped the four-run inning with an RBI single.
In the third inning, Lane added an RBI double, Manny Mayorson scored Chris Woodward on a sacrifice fly, and Darin Mastroianni hit a run-scoring single to make it 7-0.
Ryan Budde hit a two-run bomb in the fifth inning, and Jayson Nix capped the onslaught with a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning. Las Vegas (63-62) needed just 13 hits to get the 11 runs, and every player in the lineup scored.
Chad Beck (2-2) got the win for the 51s, yielding six hits and a walk while striking out three in 7 1/3 innings. Additon (2-8) took the loss for Memphis (64-60), exiting in the third inning after giving up seven runs on six hits and five walks.
Nix finished 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored, and Hechavarria was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
