Son blasts Nets’ firing on Twitter

Throughout sports history, a fairly standard procedure is followed when a coach is fired.

The team owner and general manager give a news conference saying how they felt it was time to move in a new direction and how they know the coach did everything in his power to succeed, but things aren't progressing as quickly as they would like.

Then, the coach speaks to the media and says how he is disappointed in the decision but understands and wishes his former players well. Then the coach goes home, and his family bad-mouths the team and comforts Dad by blaming everyone else for his misfortune.

There have been a few exceptions, but that's pretty much how things go. That's pretty much how things would have gone with the Brooklyn Nets' firing of Avery Johnson, too, if there was no such thing as Twitter.

That part where the family bad-mouths everyone else in the organization - that can be public now thanks to social media.

Johnson's teenage son, Avery Johnson Jr., took to his Twitter account to vent about his dad's dismissal, and it was unfiltered excellence, as detailed by the New York Daily News.

"This is a (expletive) Outrage. My dad is a great coach, he just got coach of the month and they Fire him. #Smh. Completely new team he had," Junior posted. "The expectations were way to high for this team. We didn't even have a losing record.... Didn't even give my dad a full season. #OUTRAGE."

He wasn't finished.

"I'm sorry (our) best players couldn't make open shots. Yeah that's my dad's fault totally."

This would be example No. 6,743 of why Twitter is awesome.

■ LIKE AN UGLY SWEATER - The highly disappointing Buffalo Bills season will end Sunday with yet another losing record and an extension of the pathetic streak of years without a playoff appearance.

At least fans in Buffalo won't have to watch the game. The team said the season finale will be blacked out because 13,000 seats remain unsold.

The bigger surprise is that any tickets were purchased.

In fact, the majority of the 60,000 tickets purchased were believed to have been bought as Christmas gifts by senile grandmothers who thought Bills tickets still were cool.

■ DO AS I SAY - The simmering rivalry between former star defensive tackle-turned-commentator Warren Sapp and Detroit Lions star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh once again is heating up.

Suh has taken exception to some of Sapp's critiques of his play. The current player said if the analyst has something constructive to say about his game, he would love to hear it.

"To me, you can be a fan and just criticize me, or you can be a great person and somebody who could be a legend and somebody possibly in the Hall of Fame and teach me something - show me what you think I'm doing incorrectly," Suh told Mike O'Hara of Detroitlions.com. "Or just continue as a fan, someone who wants to criticize."

If Suh starts spending money frivolously and laughing at everything he says, we'll know he has started studying under Sapp.
