Spring Mountain breezes past Lund

The winner of next week's Indian Springs-Spring Mountain game likely will have the inside track for a spot in the Class 1A Southern League football playoffs.

While Indian Springs (1-1) was off Friday, Spring Mountain (2-1) stayed sharp and confident while playing only half a game.

The Eagles breezed to a 32-0 win over visiting Lund, which asked to end the game at halftime because it had only six healthy players after starting the game with eight.

"We've been getting ready for that game ever since training camp," Eagles quarterback Robby Lindbloom said of Spring Mountain's home date against Indian Springs next Friday. "It's going to be a big deal for us."

Lund (0-2) began the season with 13 players and lost two to injuries in a 68-0 loss at Henderson International on Aug. 28.

Three other Mustangs missed Friday's game due to other commitments, because the school initially thought the game was on another date, coach Geoff Bryan said.

The coaches agreed prior to kickoff to use a running clock for the duration. Only 33 plays were run from scrimmage.

James Maestas scored on an 18-yard run and a 65-yard punt return during Spring Mountain's 24-point first quarter.

Boulder City 28, River Valley 0 -- At Mohave Valley, Ariz., Preston Swasey scored two touchdowns for the Eagles (2-1), who held the Dust Devils (0-3) to 26 yards of offense.

Swasey scored on a 58-yard interception return and a 64-yard pass from Ross LaMarca.

Devin Combs led Boulder City in rushing with 64 yards and returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown during the Eagles' 14-point fourth quarter.

Moapa Valley 43, Enterprise (Utah) 14 -- At Overton, Matt Newton rushed for 146 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Pirates past Enterprise (2-2) for their first win.

Newton had first-quarter TD runs of 48 and 7 yards to help Moapa Valley (1-2) take a 24-0 lead after the one quarter. He caught a 32-yard TD pass from Kelan Weiss in the second quarter and had a 20-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Weiss completed 8 of 10 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He had a 28-yard TD pass to Casen Lewis in the first quarter. Jake Pearce added a 20-yard TD run.

Virgin Valley 27, Sparks 7 -- At Sparks, Humberto Urias rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns to lift the Bulldogs (1-2) past the Railroaders (1-2). Richard Vidal also ran for two TDs for Virgin Valley.

Palo Verde JV 50, Sunrise Mountain 0 -- At Palo Verde, the Panthers' junior varsity squad easily handled the Miners, who are 0-3 in their first year of competition.

Sophomore Demaryae Williams scored three touchdowns on four carries, compiling 101 yards. Junior Donald Anderson supplied a 63-yard touchdown on a punt return.

For Sunrise Mountain, freshman quarterback Chris Moore had six completions for 82 yards, including a 50-yarder to Cody Trapp.

La Jolla Country Day 42, The Meadows 7 -- At La Jolla, Calif., the Mustangs were shut out until the fourth quarter, when David Liu scored on an 8-yard run.

The Meadows (1-1) was held to 130 yards of offense, including only 21 rushing. Liu carried 15 times for 63 yards.

In the second quarter, La Jolla Country Day (2-0) returned an interception 35 yards and a fumble 85 for touchdowns.
