Stellar pitching, big fourth inning lift 51s past Aces

Andrew Carpenter and four relievers limited the host Reno Aces to four hits and one walk Saturday night in the 51s' 7-2 victory in the opener of a four-game Pacific Coast League series.
Carpenter (6-3) went five innings and gave up two hits, no walks and one run, which was unearned. He struck out three.
With the score tied at 1, Las Vegas (47-35) broke open the game with a four-run fourth. Jonathan Diaz, Anthony Gose and Travis Snider hit RBI singles in the inning, and David Cooper had a sacrifice fly.
After Yan Gomes hit a two-out double in the ninth, Eric Thames and Moises Sierra followed with consecutive RBI singles for the 51s, who totaled 14 hits. Thames led the way with three hits, and Gose, Snider, Gomes and Mike McCoy had two each.
Aces starter Joe Martinez (7-5) gave up five runs on 10 hits and two walks in seven innings. Geoff Blum had two of the four hits for Reno (48-35).
