Sunset All-Stars hold on for 12-11 triumph
The Sunrise Region All-Stars rallied for four runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Sunset Region held on for a 12-11 win in the Senior All-Star baseball game at the College of Southern Nevada on Thursday.
The Sunset led 12-7 with two outs in the ninth before two singles and a walk loaded the bases. Basic's John Anderson singled home one run, and Las Vegas' Bryan Harper doubled to score three more and cut the lead to one.
But Bishop Gorman pitcher Chase Barilla, who had what would have been a game-ending grounder turn into a bad-hop single earlier in the inning, got a strikeout to end the game.
The Sunset used a six-run second to take the lead for good. Arbor View's David McClure, who was named the Sunset Most Valuable Player, had a three-run double in the inning.
Durango's Niko Vasquez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Gorman's Brandon Garcia hit a solo home run for the Sunset. Gorman's John Rickard drove in two runs.
Silverado's Jordan Keegan was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and was named Sunrise MVP. Basic's Brett Wellman added two hits and two RBIs for the Sunrise Region.
