Sunset tops Sunrise in all-star baseball game
Clark's Justin Perreault could have let one mistake ruin his night. Instead, he made the most of an opportunity for redemption.
Normally a catcher, Perreault misplayed a fly ball in left field to allow the tying run to score in the bottom of the seventh inning at the Southern Nevada Senior All-Star Baseball Game on Wednesday.
But Perreault responded by singling home the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth to lift the Sunset Region to a 9-8 win over the Sunrise at the Community College of Southern Nevada's Morse Stadium.
The Sunset fell behind early after the Sunrise scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first to take a 5-2 lead.
The Sunrise had four doubles in the inning, including consecutive RBI doubles by Green Valley's Brendan O'Connell and Rancho's James Crockett and Alex Gonzalez.
Sunset pitchers allowed only four more hits over the next eight innings.
Arbor View's Oscar Hudson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Sunset.
Silverado's Mike McDade was 2-for-2 with a double for the Sunrise.
• SOCCER -- Bishop Gorman's Zac Zaher and Phillip Roldan each scored in the final minute to lift the Sunset All-Stars to a 3-2 win over the Sunrise in the Green Valley Rotary Club High School All-Star boys soccer game at Foothill.
Irvin Abrego of Sierra Vista also had a second-half goal for the Sunset. Green Valley's Eric Barto and Valley's Martin Ortiz scored for the Sunrise.
In the girls game, Gorman's Amanda Forrester and Palo Verde's Ashleigh Shoughro each had a goal as the Sunset blanked the Sunrise, 2-0.
