Tapley’s 3 lifts Aztecs over Broncos

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State blew a 17-point first-half lead, but Chase Tapley hit a 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left to give the Aztecs a 63-62 victory against Boise State on Wednesday night.
San Diego State (17-5, 5-3 Mountain West) needed Tapley's big shot after being outplayed down the stretch by the Broncos.
Mikey Thompson's 3-pointer with 3:16 left gave Boise State (15-7, 3-5) a 61-58 lead. Neither team scored until the Aztecs' Jamaal Franklin made a layup with 13.5 seconds left. Boise State's Derrick Marks made the first of two free throws but missed the second, and Tapley rebounded to set up the winning shot.
James Rahon scored 16 points for San Diego State.
■ Colorado State 73, UNR 69 - At Reno, Greg Smith had 28 points and 12 rebounds, and the Rams (19-4, 6-2) held off the Wolf Pack (11-11, 2-6) for their fourth straight victory.
After Jordan Burris hit two free throws to cut Colorado State's lead to 71-69 with 14 seconds left, Wes Eikmeier answered with two free throws to make it a two possession game.
■ No. 15 New Mexico 81, Air Force 58 - At Albuquerque, N.M., Jamal Fenton scored all five of his points during a second-half surge to help the Lobos beat the Falcons (14-7, 5-3).
With New Mexico (20-3, 7-1) leading 57-51, Fenton started a 14-1 run with a turnaround floater in the lane that barely beat the shot clock.
■ Wyoming 61, Cal State Bakersfield 53 - At Bakersfield, Calif., Larry Nance Jr. had 17 points and 15 rebounds, and the Cowboys pulled away late against the Roadrunners (8-15).
Derek Cooke Jr. added 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Cowboys (16-6).
TEXAS CHRISTIAN SHOCKS NO. 5 JAYHAWKS
FORT WORTH, Texas - Garlon Green scored 20 points, and Texas Christian held on for a 62-55 upset of fifth-ranked Kansas on Wednesday night for the Horned Frogs' first Big 12 victory.
The Jayhawks (19-3, 7-2 Big 12), coming off a home loss four days earlier against Oklahoma State, have their first losing streak in more than seven years. They had played 264 games in a row since January 2006 without consecutive losses, the longest active streak in NCAA Division I.
TCU (10-12, 1-8), in its first year in the Big 12, never trailed.

■ LYONS LEADS ARIZONA - At Tucson, Ariz., Mark Lyons scored a season-high 25 points and led a key stretch in the second half, helping No. 7 Arizona (20-2, 9-2, Pac-12) to a 73-66 victory over Stanford (14-9, 5-5) on the 40th anniversary of the first game at the McKale Center.
■ BLUEJAYS BELTED - At Terre Haute, Ind., Jake Odum scored 22 points to lead Indiana State (15-8, 8-4 Missouri Valley Conference) to 76-57 upset of No. 16 Creighton (20-4, 9-3), which got just eight points from Doug McDermott, all in the first half.
■ COWBOYS WORK LATE - At Stillwater, Okla., Michael Cobbins blocked a shot, leading to a Markel Brown fast-break layup with two-tenths of a second left in overtime as No. 22 Oklahoma State (16-5, 6-3 Big 12) nabbed a 69-67 victory over Baylor (14-8, 5-4).
