Tavernari fuels Brigham Young blowout

PROVO, Utah -- Jonathan Tavernari scored a game-high 25 points in 24 minutes, leading Brigham Young to a 74-41 nonconference victory over North Florida on Thursday.
Tavernari scored BYU's first seven points, then scored another seven straight early in the second half to push the Cougars' lead to 50-24.
Lee Cummard had 12 rebounds for BYU (3-0). North Florida dropped to 0-2.
The game was the first for both teams during a four-team invitational in three days.
• New Mexico 96, Grambling State 50 -- At Albuquerque, N.M., Daniel Faris scored 18 points, and the Lobos (2-1) took control early with an 18-3 run to blow out the Tigers (0-2).
New Mexico led 49-18 at halftime. Ibrahim Kpaka had 17 points for Grambling.
