Tavernari, Plaisted key BYU
PROVO, Utah -- Bishop Gorman High School graduate Jonathan Tavernari and Trent Plaisted scored 25 points each, carrying Brigham Young to a 92-73 win over Colorado State on Saturday.
The victory pushed the Cougars' home winning streak to 40 games, the second-longest active streak in the nation.
BYU (12-4, 1-0 Mountain West) began the second half with a 12-0 run to pull away to a 50-27 lead. The Cougars led 55-30 with 15:50 to play.
Marcus Walker led Colorado State (6-10, 0-2) with 24 points, and Willis Gardner scored 14.
• San Diego State 72, New Mexico 67 -- At Albuquerque, N.M., Cheyenne High product Lorrenzo Wade scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half, and the Aztecs (12-4, 2-0 MWC) rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat the Lobos (14-3, 1-1).
J.R. Giddens had 24 points for New Mexico.
• Texas Christina 83, Wyoming 56 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, Henry Salter scored 20 points, and the Horned Frogs (9-6, 1-1 MWC) scored the game's first 13 points to run away from the Cowboys (6-8, 0-2).
Brandon Ewing led Wyoming with 17 points.
