Eric Thames hit a pair of solo home runs and Niuman Romero scored the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning on a throwing error as the 51s beat the Tacoma Rainiers 6-4 in a Pacific Coast League baseball game Sunday in Tacoma, Wash.
The victory was the sixth in eight games for the 51s (15-16).
The game was tied 4-4 when Romero scored from second base on an error by Rainiers pitcher Manny Delcarmen (2-2) who threw away a sacrifice bunt by Las Vegas' Brett Lawrie. Travis Snider followed with a run-scoring groundout to give the 51s an insurance run.
Las Vegas starter Scott Richmond
(2-1) worked 6 1/3 innings for the victory, while relievers Will Ledezma and Danny Farquhar held Tacoma scoreless over the final 3 2/3 innings. Farquhar picked up his third save.
Thames homered in the fourth and sixth innings, and also had a single on a 3-for-3 day that raised his batting average to .339. Adam Loewen hit a two-run homer for Las Vegas in the second.
The 51s have taken two of the first three games of the four-game series, which concludes today at 11:35 a.m.
