Tippens’ five TDs fuel Pershing County rout of White Pine
Senior Marcus Tippens ran for three touchdowns and caught two scoring passes from Seth Montes to lead Pershing County to its second straight Class 2A football state title with a 47-14 win over White Pine on Saturday at Fernley.
Tippens scored three times and made an interception in the first 11 minutes as the Mustangs (11-1) took an 18-0 lead.
After Pershing County recovered an onside kick to start the game, Tippens scored on a 4-yard run. He also caught touchdown passes of 47 and 35 yards, the latter on a fourth-and-19 play.
Jacob Flores' 21-yard run made the score 24-0 in the second quarter before the Bobcats (11-1) scored on Joshua Ashby's 15-yard pass to Jake Johnson.
Tippens added a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a 3-yarder in the fourth. Miguel Rodriguez added a 19-yard TD run for Pershing County.
Devante Valencia scored on a 1-yard run in the final minute for White Pine.
