Top-ranked CSN sweeps baseball twin bill

College of Southern Nevada swept Yavapai (Ariz.) College in a baseball doubleheader Saturday, winning 7-1 and 5-1 in the Coyote Border Battle tournament at Morse Stadium.
In the first game, Donn Roach pitched 6 2/3 hitless innings, striking out nine and walking two for the top-ranked Coyotes (3-0) while allowing one unearned run. CSN had four triples, including Trevor Kirk's two-run triple to highlight a four-run third inning.
Chasen Shreve went five shutout innings in the second game. Marvin Campbell had a two-run homer in the first, and Trent Cook hit a solo shot in the fourth.
Bryce Harper, in his second and third games with the squad, combined to go 0-for-8 with a walk, a run and a strikeout.
• CSN SOFTBALL -- The Coyotes went 1-1 in the Mizuno Kickoff Classic at Russell Road Recreation Complex.
The Coyotes (3-2) defeated El Paso (Texas) Community College 14-2, then lost to Pima (Ariz.) Community College 7-6 in 10 innings.
• UNLV MEN'S TENNIS -- The Rebels rolled over Saint Mary's 6-1 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Mehdi Bouras topped Lucas Tirelli 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Luca Barlocchi (No. 2), Attila Toth (No. 3), Johannes Markel (No. 4) and Bernard Schoeman (No. 6) also won singles matches for the Rebels (3-1).
• UNLV WOMEN'S TENNIS -- At Los Angeles, the Rebels lost to Pepperdine 4-3 in the consolation round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament.
UNLV won the doubles point and took two of six singles matches, with Kristina Nedeltcheva winning at No. 1 singles and Adrian Hidvegi at No. 4.
• UNLV WOMEN'S SWIMMING -- At Fort Collins, Colo., the Rebels lost to Colorado State 185-115 in a Mountain West Conference meet. Brittany Ozar won the 200-yard freestyle and the 200 individual medley for UNLV.
• UNLV TRACK AND FIELD -- At Albuquerque, N.M., Bailey Kuestermeyer took second in the 3,000-meter run, and Amanda Bingson was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 54 feet, 4 inches -- the second-best mark in school history -- to lead the Rebels at the New Mexico Invitational indoor meet.
