Trojans win, get top seed
Pahrump Valley's Tori Thomas singled home Brittney Lindgren in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie, and the Trojans held on to beat visiting Faith Lutheran 6-4 in softball to secure a doubleheader split on Friday.
The teams finished tied atop the Class 3A Southern League at 14-2. Pahrump will be the league's top playoff seed because it won the final matchup.
In the first game, Angie Miller went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double as the Crusaders won, 2-0. Jessie Tracy pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to get the win.
• Palo Verde 12, Silverado 4 -- At Silverado, Amanda Montalto was 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Palo Verde's Alisha Perry had a grand slam and Lauryn Stover went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer in an eight-run seventh inning. Mikayla Thielges had a two-run homer for the Skyhawks.
• Centennial 10, Las Vegas 7 -- At Centennial, Katie Lee was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and five RBIs for the Bulldogs.
• Mountain View 25-12, Indian Springs 0-1 -- At Mountain View, Valencia Casey threw five innings of one-hit ball and was 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in the first game and added two triples in the second.
Mountain View's Ellie Markwardt and Lindsey Gross each went 4-for-5 in the first game.
• Lake Mead 10-6, Beatty 6-1 -- At Morrell Park, Lynzee Freund had 14 strikeouts for the Eagles in the doubleheader. Lake Mead's Amanda Wellman was 3-for-4 with a home run.
BASEBALL
• Las Vegas 7, Centennial 3 -- At Centennial, Tanner Chauncey's two-run single in the sixth broke a 3-3 tie. Wes Grass had two hits, and Marvin Campbell had a home run and two RBIs for the Wildcats.
• Mountain View 15-28, Indian Springs 7-6 -- At Indian Springs, Evan Entler had a triple, a double and three RBIs in the seventh inning of the first game for the Saints.
In the second game, Ryan Jarzombek went 5-for-5 with five RBIs, and Billy Paddack was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs for the Saints.
• Faith Lutheran 18-4, Pahrump Valley 8-7 -- At Pahrump Valley, the Trojans defeated the Crusaders for the first time since 2002 in the second game of a doubleheader.
Mike Gonzalez struck out nine and walked none in going the distance for Pahrump.
Faith Lutheran's Dylan Young homered twice.
• Lake Mead 6-8, Tonopah 3-0 -- At Lake Mead, Dallas Erickson threw a two-hitter in the second game of the doubleheader, and Josh Bratton had a solo home run. In the first game, Brandon Tappe had a homer for Tonopah, and Mike Dolfin added two doubles.
• Calvary Chapel 19-21, Beatty 0-4 -- At CSN, Cory Welch was 7-for-7 with two home runs, four doubles and 10 RBIs.
CIMARRON FORCED TO FORFEIT VICTORY Cimarron-Memorial's baseball team was forced to forfeit Thursday's 8-3 victory over Centennial for using an ineligible player. The loss dropped the Spartans to 8-6 in the Northwest division, leaving them tied with legacy for the league's final playoff spot. Cimarron and Legacy will play at 10 a.m. today at Centennial to determine the final postseason spot. The win moved Centennial to 11-3 in the division, and the Bulldogs move from the league's no. 3 seed to no. 2. Palo Verde is seeded third for next week's sunset region tournament. Review-Journal
