Arkansas center to become a Lady Rebel

Katie Powell, a 6 feet 4 inch center, will transfer from Arkansas to UNLV. She will sit out next basketball season because of NCAA transfer rules, but then will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Powell played 23 games for the Razorbacks this past season, averaging 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. She was rated the nation’s 16th-best center by ESPN HoopGurlz when Powell was a senior at Duluth (Ga.) High School.

The addition of Powell is important for the Lady Rebels because they will need to replace two inside players when she becomes eligibility.

“We’re fortunate to add another great rebounder who can also score inside,” UNLV coach Kathy Olivier said in a statement. “Katie is going to definitely help us inside and is very excited to join our squad. It will also be a benefit to our team to add a player that has the experience of playing in the (Southeastern Conference), annually one of the top conferences in the nation. We are thrilled to have her. It is a huge addition to our program.”
