Lady Rebels win, head to tourney third-place game

Kelli Thompson scored 23 points, 21 in the second half, to lead the UNLV women's basketball team to a 67-62 victory Thursday over Alabama A&M in its second game at the World Vision Classic at Cox Pavilion.

Alana Cesarz added 20 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Rebels (4-7), who will play Kansas State in the third-place game at 3 p.m. today.

No. 5 Notre Dame meets No. 22 Texas A&M in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. In other games Thursday, Notre Dame beat Kansas State 87-57, and Texas A&M defeated Old Dominion, 78-55.

UNLV trailed Alabama A&M 42-37 midway through the second half before Thompson ripped off nine straight points to put the Lady Rebels ahead for good.

UNLV sealed the win by hitting 10 of 12 free throws in the final two minutes.

Danielle Miller also scored in double figures for the Lady Rebels with 10.

NaDra Robertson led Alabama A&M (1-7) with 19 points.
