Utah QB will transfer to UNR
Utah quarterback Corbin Louks plans to transfer to UNR.
Louks said transferring will give him a better opportunity to continue playing quarterback. He was listed at No. 1 on the depth chart entering fall camp but was passed last week by freshman Jordan Wynn and junior-college transfer Terrance Cain.
Louks was the only quarterback on Utah's roster to play in an NCAA game. He completed 9 of 15 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns in his career as a Ute.
Louks will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out this year.
• SYRACUSE -- Former Duke point guard Greg Paulus is the starting quarterback for the Orange.
He won the job after transferring and getting an NCAA waiver to play football as a graduate student at the Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Paulus was a Parade All-American as a record-setting quarterback in high school in Syracuse, N.Y.
Senior Cam Dantley, last year's starter, and two underclassmen were also in the running to start.
• MIAMI -- Running back Graig Cooper is the Hurricanes' newest injury concern.
Cooper missed practice with an apparent lower right leg injury. He was wearing a protective boot.
The severity was not immediately clear.
The junior has been Miami's leading rusher in each of his first two seasons. He ran for 841 yards last year and scored touchdowns four ways -- rushing, receiving, passing and returning.
• BIG EAST-CHAMPS SPORTS BOWL -- The Big East announced a four-year agreement that will give the Champs Sports Bowl the choice of any conference team not headed to a Bowl Championship Series game.
But under the deal, the conference runner-up might have to step aside in favor of Notre Dame once during those four years.
The Big East's No. 2 had gone to the Gator or Sun bowls under an arrangement that also involved Notre Dame as well as the Big 12. That agreement ends after this season.
The new deal allows the Champs Sports Bowl to pick Notre Dame over a Big East team once, if the Fighting Irish's record is at least 7-5 and within two wins of the Big East's No. 2 school, said Steve Hogan, the chief executive of Florida Citrus Sports, which runs the bowl.
• TENNESSEE -- Coach Lane Kiffin said the NCAA is investigating an eligibility issue with freshman tailback Bryce Brown.
At issue is Brown's amateur status as a high school athlete, a person familiar with the investigation said. The NCAA is reviewing whether money was raised for Brown to visit colleges during his sophomore year. Tennessee was not recruiting Brown then, according to the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
Brown, from Wichita, Kan., was considered a top high school prospect in 2009. He has seen significant playing time with the Volunteer's first team offense in fall practice.
• SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA -- Center Kristofer O'Dowd, a junior who started every game for the Trojans last season, could miss a few weeks after dislocating his right kneecap during a scrimmage Monday.
O'Dowd probably will be replaced in practice by Alex Parsons, a senior who began his career as a defensive lineman. Parsons started 10 games at right guard last season before filling in at center during spring ball while O'Dowd recovered from shoulder surgery.
