Wade helps Aztecs speed to 8-1 record
SAN DIEGO -- Kelvin Davis scored 16 points and Cheyenne High School product Lorrenzo Wade added 14 to lead San Diego State to a 59-46 win over UC Riverside on Tuesday.
Davis made 6 of 12 shots on a night when the Aztecs (8-1) made only 34 percent of their field-goal attempts, including only 3 of 15 3-point shots.
The win matched the best nine-game start in San Diego State's 38-year Division I history. It was the fifth time the Aztecs have reached the mark, including last season.
Larry Cunningham had 21 points for UC Riverside (2-6).
• New Mexico State 71, New Mexico 62 -- At Las Cruces, N.M., Justin Hawkins scored 12 points and freshman Wendell McKines grabbed 15 rebounds as the Aggies (4-6) defeated the Lobos (7-2).
It was the 199th game in the series, which dates to the 1904-05 season. New Mexico leads 105-94.
Chad Toppert led New Mexico with 20 points, hitting 6 of 7 attempts from 3-point range.
• Northern Illinois 63, Air Force 52 -- At DeKalb, Ill., junior guard Jarvis Nichols scored 18 points to carry the Huskies (2-6) past the Falcons (5-4).
Senior guard Tim Anderson had 15 points to lead Air Force, which has lost four straight.
