Wallace, Mills fuel 51s past Rainiers
Brett Wallace belted a three-run homer and Brad Mills threw six scoreless innings to lead the 51s to a 6-2 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers in a Pacific Coast League game Monday at Tacoma, Wash.
Wallace's homer, his PCL-leading 10th, capped the 51s' four-run third inning.
Jesus Merchan hit a one-out single in the third and Luis Figueroa doubled. Jarrett Hoffpauir followed with a sacrifice fly that was misplayed by Tacoma center fielder Ezequiel Carrera, allowing Merchan to score and giving Las Vegas (15-17) a 1-0 lead.
After Jeremy Reed lined out, Wallace launched a drive over the right-field wall to make it 4-0. Six of his 10 homers are solo shots.
Mills (3-2, 2.63 ERA) allowed two hits, struck out two and walked four.
Garrett Olson (1-3) took the loss for Tacoma (14-15), giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits in eight innings, with two walks and six strikeouts.
The Rainiers scored in the seventh on Chris Woodward's RBI double, ending a 16-inning scoreless streak, and the ninth on Tommy Everidge's sacrifice fly.
Las Vegas, which won the last two games of its road trip to finish 3-5, added two runs in the ninth on sacrifice flies by Chris Aguila and Chris Lubanski.

SERIES NOTES: Ryne Sandberg, the former Chicago Cubs star and baseball Hall of Famer, is in his fourth season as a minor league manager in the Cubs organization and his first with Iowa.
Iowa features two of Chicago's top 10 prospects in right-handers Andrew Cashner (No. 4) and Jay Jackson (No. 5). Cashner is slated to make his Triple-A debut against the 51s Wednesday. He was 3-1 with a 2.75 ERA at Double-A Tennessee.
Las Vegas also will host the Omaha Royals, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, from Saturday through May 18 to complete its eight-game homestand.
The 51s (9-7 at home) have gone 9-16 after a 6-1 start.
OF Chris Aguila leads Las Vegas with a .333 average and 1B Brett Wallace leads the Pacific Coast League with 10 homers. ... 51s right-hander Robert Ray was named the PCL Pitcher of the Week after tossing a four-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Tacoma on Sunday. He faced three batters over the minimum.
