Wranglers fall to Reign in midnight game

The Wranglers suffered a stunning 5-4 ECHL overtime loss to the Ontario (Calif.) Reign early Tuesday morning in their 11th annual midnight game before a fun-loving crowd of 3,823 at the Orleans Arena.

John Armstrong scored his second goal to put Las Vegas (8-13-3, 19 points) ahead 4-3 with 1:15 left in regulation, but Matt White tied it with seven seconds left and Matt Register won it 38 seconds into overtime for Western Conference-leading Ontario (17-3-4, 38).

Local product Chris Francis and Adam Hughesman (goal, assist) scored to help the Wranglers take a 3-1 lead, but the relentless Reign rallied to tie it while outshooting Las Vegas 55 to 29.

Travis Fullerton made 50 saves and Geoff Irwin added two assists for the Wranglers, who have lost three straight and will play at Bakersfield, Calif., on Dec. 26 before returning home for games against Idaho on Dec. 27 and 28.
