Wyoming springs road victory on Aztecs
SAN DIEGO -- Freshman Brett Smith threw two touchdown passes and rushed for two scores as Wyoming held on for a 30-27 victory over San Diego State on Saturday.
Smith was 25 of 36 passing for 341 yards for the Cowboys (5-2, 2-0 Mountain West), who scored all of their points en route to a 30-13 halftime lead.
The Aztecs (4-3, 1-2) came back in the third quarter behind Ronnie Hillman's two touchdowns, one on a 99-yard run, to get within 30-27.
San Diego State's Able Perez missed field-goal attempts of 39 and 27 yards in the fourth quarter. The last came with 1:55 remaining.
Hillman, the nation's leading rusher, finished with 224 yards on 25 carries.
■ Air Force 42, New Mexico 0 -- At Albuquerque, N.M., Mike DeWitt scored on runs of 4, 12, 1 and 3 yards, leading the Falcons (4-4, 1-3 MWC) to a rout of the Lobos (0-8, 0-3).
Air Force played most of the game without quarterback Tim Jefferson, who went out with a head injury early in the second quarter. Backup Connor Dietz rushed for 87 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown that put the Falcons up 35-0 at halftime.
