A Democratic principle — one, fair tax rate

Democrat Robert Daskas hopes to unseat Rep. Jon Porter, R.-Nev. Why? Because Mr. Daskas views Porter as a George W. Bush lackey who supported tax cuts for the super wealthy at the expense of 99% of less wealthy Nevadans. Mr. Daskas says what needs to happen is the 99% need to pay less taxes and the 1% need to pay more.
Hey, here's an idea that Mr. Daskas and Democrats in general might want to consider: Instead of advocating higher taxes for some and lower taxes for others, how about a single tax rate for all. Why should there be a sliding scale? Why should a family making $50,000 a year pay a lower percentage of his or her income than, say, a family making $150,000. Make the tax burden bearable for they guy making $50,000 and then extend it to everyone. That would the American way.
The reason Democrats will never, ever support one fair level for income tax is because they know that sooner or later it would mean far fewer dollars for government. The truth is that the wealthy already foot the lion's share of the tax bill in America. But you don't hear Democrats talking about the $50,000-a-year guy unfairly getting a free tax ride. One tax, equal and fair. Wouldn't that be a better approach for a "party of the people?" It certainly would be more intellectually honest.
