A hip debut

Rayo Casablanca’s debut novel “6 Sick Hipsters” is one weird read.
A serial killer named Doctor Jeep is murdering hipsters across Brooklyn. The cops haven’t put the pieces together yet, but some hipster friends have figured it out and form the Whole Sick Crew, setting out to kill Doctor Jeep before he can kill off anymore of their smarty-pants friends.
Their pursuit of Doctor Jeep is a crazy ride filled with hacked off limbs, blown out brains, sewage diving and a killer monkey named Faggot. (Hey, I didn’t write the book.)
Casablanca’s gory detailing of the brutal slaughters reminded me of author Chuck Palahniuk. Pretty graphic stuff. I enjoyed it, but I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It also seemed as if Casablanca was poking fun at the same people who are the target audience for this book.
“6 Sick Hipsters” lacks the laugh-out-loud moments found in Palahniuk’s books, but on the whole I thought it was a pretty good debut, but I’m not a hipster so take that for what it’s worth.
