A Washington inside joke on the Ensign scandal

When you're in the headlines for a scandal as Sen. John Ensign currently is, old adversaries come out of the woodwork.

So it is with the D.C. Statehood Fund. The fund, which advocates making the nation's capital the 51st state, is selling a clever T-shirt that will resonate with its supporters and puzzle those outside the Beltway orbit.

Earlier this year, Ensign helped torpedo a move to get Washington, D.C., a vote in Congress by adding an amendment that would get rid of gun restrictions in the nation's capital, which historically has had tough gun-control laws.

The amendment wasn't palatable to some of the bill's supporters, and the bill has languished ever since.
