Angle raising funds for special election

WASHINGTON -- Republican Sharron Angle is raising campaign cash in advance of a special election for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District.

In an email solicitation sent today, Angle is asking supporters for "an urgent contribution" to prepare for the launch of a special election contest.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Wednesday that he would appoint Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., to the US Senate to fill the vacancy left by the early exit of Sen. John Ensign.

Angle had planned to run for the 2nd District seat in 2012, after Heller had announced his intention to run for the Senate. Ensign's early departure and Heller's ascension means a special election will be held in the next six months to fill the 2nd District seat.

Exactly who will be a candidate in the special election has yet to be determined, but Angle appears ready and willing.

In her email solicitation, Angle says that she won't have a year to prepare and must now "raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in just WEEKS."

"Our message will be the first to hit the doors of NV-CD 2 and the airwaves and as a team the last to leave it, but only if we can raise money today to prepare for the launch of the special contest," she said.
