AROUND TOWN: Las Vegas trims animal control hours
The city of Las Vegas Animal Control Division announced that it will cut its daily operating hours to 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., starting Oct. 5.
The three-and-a-half-hour trim in weekly hours is a result of budget cutbacks, declining city revenues and the recent retirement of two animal control officers due to legislation regarding health insurance for retirees.
The revised work schedule will allow the Animal Control Division to cover peak call times with its current 11-officer staff. Residents needing service beyond the scheduled hours can call animal control's dispatcher at 229-6348. Priority will be assigned and calls handled as needed.
“We want to maintain the best possible service to our citizens, but we must balance that with the realities of our current budget,” said chief Karen Coyne of the Department of Detention and Enforcement. “Despite our shortened hours, citizens of Las Vegas will continue to experience personalized and the high level of professional customer service they have come to expect from our officers.”
