AROUND TOWN: Learn to cook a taste of the tropics

You don't have to travel all the way to Hawaii to get a taste of the tropics. In fact, you can enjoy authentic island flavors in the comfort of your own home with the help of Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine. The restaurant's Summerlin location, 8701 W. Charleston Blvd., will offer up cooking secrets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The cooking class will be conducted by Roy's chef Brandon Konishi and will offer instruction for preparing items infused with Hawaiian and Asian flavors. Be sure to come to the class hungry, because after the demonstration, there will be a three-course menu with lobster California hand roll, hibachi shrimp with citrus ponzu and pineapple upside down cake, as well as wine and sake pairings. The cost of the class is $65 per person, and space is limited. To make a reservation, call 838-3620.
