Back to school

The Complete Las Vegan took a field trip yesterday to the Liliam Lujan Hickey Elementary School where he read to four kindergarten classes. The Complete one read "Dinosaurs Love Underpants" by Claire Freedman.

TCLV met a youngster named "Sherman." They had their picture taken by a teacher. Sherman the elder told Sherman the younger how to best cope with his Christian name and that generally "it ain't easy being green."

That is all.

PS: OK, not quite all. Hickey is an orderly, well kept school. My compliments to the administration and staff.

PPS: Everytime I get into the trenches of public education I'm reminded of the big job classroom teachers face. If anyone is doing that work for the paycheck only, I feel sorry for them. This is a calling critical to the community. Yesterday, I simply read a couple of books to four classes. Teachers show up every day moving our children from level of level. And for that we say "thank you."
