Berkley backing Hoyer on undercard

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Las Vegas, is backing current House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer to be the Democratic Whip in the 112th Congress.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to remain leader of the Democratic caucus has set up a battle for second-in-command between Hoyer and Rep. James Clyburn, who currently holds the title of Whip.

Berkley hasn’t said whether she’ll support Pelosi but did sign a letter supporting Hoyer.

Clyburn appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program today and downplayed the rivalry between him and Hoyer, who has represented Maryland for 30 years.
