Biden — all risk, no upside for Obama
Well, Sen. Barack Obama did it. He choose Sen. Joe Biden as his running-mate late Friday evening Las Vegas time. My guess is it won't be two weeks before the Obama camp feels the sting of one of Biden's impulsive, ego-driven verbal mistakes. It's his history and now his destiny.
Because, as the old quip goes, Joe Biden is a self made man who worships his creator, he won't be able to help himself. Just like this primary season when Biden called Obama a nice and "clean" candidate, sparking howls of race-based criticism, or his clear and resonating criticism of Obama as a man who is "not ready" to be president, he's got plenty more where that came from.
Like a rusty gun with a history of misfires, this is a bad choice of weapons. It has many risks and, so far as I can see, no upside.
