Book a big treat for Bon Jovi fans
I’ll proudly state right here and now that I am a huge Bon Jovi fan and have been since they hit the music scene … gulp … 25 years ago! And whenever there is a new Bon Jovi CD, there is happiness in the Chance household.
So imagine my excitement when I learned of an official Bon Jovi book! Sure there have been books about Bon Jovi, but never has there been a book that the band has personally participated in writing. But with the release of the new album, “The Circle,” and a new tour coming up, it just seemed like the right time for a book: “Bon Jovi — When We Were Beautiful.”
And what a spectacular book it is! Filled with exclusive photographs by famed photographer Phil Griffin, this book is truly a visual treat for fans of Bon Jovi and admirers of rock history alike. Griffin joined the band on their record-breaking 2008 “Lost Highway” tour and has captured the musicians in some of their most intimate moments as well as when they were doing what they love best, performing their music for their fans. There are also photos from the band’s past when they were a struggling rock band from Sayreville, N.J., up until they became one of the most beloved bands in the world.
And what a wild ride it has been. Since the release of their first album in 1984, and with Jon Bon Jovi as the frontman, Richie Sambora on guitar, David Bryan on keyboards and Tico Torres on drums, Bon Jovi has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide over the past 25 years. Their “Lost Highway” tour was named the number one tour in the world by Billboard magazine.
But, for the most part, the band has kept their personal lives to themselves. Jon has been known to say the band is like family, and what happens in the family stays in the family. With “When We Were Beautiful,” for the first time, the band has chosen to open up and share stories and personal glimpses into their lives as they reflect on their 25 years together.
“We are a real success story,” says Sambora in the section “Band of Brothers." “If people learn our story, they’ll get an insight into how we navigated our way through the music business and through our relationships within this band.”
And the good news for fans is that the band shows no signs of slowing down as they get ready to kick off a worldwide tour on Feb. 19 in Seattle and a stop at the MGM Grand Garden arena on March 6.
