Bush mocked, scorned by Obamamaniacs
Let's just call it what it was: Boorish and bad behavior by Democrats who could not settle to simply celebrate Barack Obama becoming the 44th president of the United States but felt the need to taunt George Bush in the process.
Before President Obama was sworn in, President Bush was announced to the crowd. Some Obamamaniacs shocked commentators when they booed the president. Other Obama supporters sang "Nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye." A man who watched Bush's plane depart the ceremonies flipped it the bird. Nice behavior for a group of people who want the media to see them as 100 percent tolerant and full of peace and love.
While some in the crowd were said to have tried to shush the boo-birds, which is commendable, the truth is that way, way too many Democrats behaved poorly Tuesday. They embarrassed Obama and their political party.
Yet somehow I doubt we will see any Democrat in authority apologize for this bad behavior.
Nor do I expect The New York Times' columnists to jump on the bad behavior and try to extend the display to Obama, as the Times writers did to McCain/Palin when some in their campaign crowds got out of hand. And certainly, I would not expect anyone in the media to look at the video of the section of the crowd who sang "Nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye" and point out that everyone in the clip was black.
But maybe somebody should.
Racism is where you find it. The media totally ignored the larger racism question raised by Obama's former pastor Jeremiah Wright. And now I expect this kind of bad mob behavior with potential racial overtones will simply get swept under the rug. Move on. Nothing to see here.
Look, Tuesday was supposed to be a happy day. And for the most part, it was. But you didn't have to look very closely to see some very ugly things. If, as Obama said in his inauguration speech, that it is time for America to "grow up," then perhaps we ought to start with some of the ugly things Obamamaniacs did Tuesday.
