Caught shilling for Lowden, Muth gets pompoms in a bunch

Conservative Chuck Muth got all flustered following a short blog item congratulating Ron Paul supporters on their recent and very overdue vindication following last year’s corrupted GOP state convention.

Paul supporters turned out, got loud, but didn’t get their voices heard at an event that’s designed to allow just that to happen. In fact, it now turns out their votes were hidden. They were locked in a box in a Reno casino.

Three Paul supporters missed a chance to go to the Republican National Convention.

It wasn’t the end of the world, but it was a prime illustration of the disarray the state GOP finds itself in. And that’s a story.

Muth, who projects himself as the arbiter of all that‘s righteous and conservative in the state, immediately took after Paul’s jilted backers. At a time Muth should have been agreeing with them, and fighting for them, he started ridiculing them.

Week after week, he sarcastically described them as “Paultards” and worse. At a time he should have been questioning the competence, leadership, and motivations of GOP Chairwoman Sue Lowden, he went into full Ninja cheerleader mode.

That’s not surprising, since it’s been reported in several places that Muth has ghost written for Lowden and is an unabashed supporter of her political career, including her candidacy for U.S. Senate. That’s great -- as long as he’s been candid on his federal paperwork. Or, I guess I should say, “amended paperwork.”

Nevada conservatives don’t yet know who the best candidate to unseat Harry Reid is, but how are they going to find out if their top political watchdog is not so secretively a lapdog for his favorite candidate?

What is worth a laugh is the fact Muth refuses to admit the truth that the convention was a sham. It wasn’t the first one in state history, and that fix-is-in feeling isn’t limited to the Republican Party. Democratic Party bosses have practiced their shenanigans as well. Instead, Muth continues to effectively cheer for Lowden by dissembling the greater meaning of the controversy.

That’s too bad. And it’s not helpful to his favorite candidate, who has to put on her own political weight and prove to Nevadans that she’s a serious intellect seeking a serious job at a most serious time in our history.

It also does a disservice to all those Paul supporters who participated in the process only to be given the cold shoulder.

And one last thing on this subject: It’s laughable that Muth would try to pull the old “I was a Paul supporter” so that means it’s okay to vilify them in an effort to douse their legitimate protest.

It reminds me of the bigot who tries to justify his bigotry by saying, “I have Negro friends.”
