Censorship: Left out

As Complete Las Vegan readers know, one of the themes here is political correctness. While censorship can, and does, come from both the political left and the political right in America, it most often comes from the left.

When the left tells us what we should or should not see, hear or say it is often cloaked as crusades against "hate speech", "misogyny" and "cultural insensitivity." In fact, it is censorship by another name.

The topic is no more current than the Tea Party movement, which gathers in Searchlight today. To some King George types on the left, the Tea Partiers ought to be denied the right to gather because, if you read some of the comments from liberals on stories in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the group is "hateful" or the group is "old" or the group is "violent".

Or consider the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival which has invited the film "Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives" for a screening. Transgender and gay and lesbian groups are calling for the film to be censored. You can call it "cultural insensitivity" if you like. But this is just censorship from the left, pure and simple.

You can see the story on the attempted censorship of "Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives" here.

And, here's a story that cites chapter and verse some of the many attempts at censorship from the left.

My advice to those striving for completeness is to fight censorship wherever you find it. Freedom is the American way and the tyranny of the bosses on the left is currently our greatest danger.
