FREE TAX PREPARATION SERVICES
AVAILABLE AT LOCAL YMCA
Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross plans to sponsor a service at the Centennial Hills Community Center YMCA, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, so low-income families can have their taxes prepared free.
During the 2012 tax season, volunteers helped more than 6,000 families claim more than $7.2 million in tax refunds. Ross is asking for volunteers for 2013, and no experience is necessary. The IRS provides free tax law and e-file training.
Volunteers must be available in January for two to three days of training and four to five hours a week for tax preparation until mid-April.

NEW RECYCLING BINS AVAILABLE AT PARKS
The city of Las Vegas is offering single-stream recycling bins at its valley parks.
The bins accept plastic and glass bottles, paper, cans, plastics, newspaper and cardboard. Patrons do not need to sort their recyclables.
The new bins are painted blue and are in several parks, including Centennial Hills Park, 7101 N. Buffalo Drive; Majestic Park, 3997 N. Hualapai Way; Doc Romeo Park, 2825 N. Ronemus Drive; Justice Myron E. Leavitt and Jaycee Community Park, 2100 E. St. Louis Ave.; Gary Reese Freedom Park, 850 N. Mojave Road; and Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road .
It is estimated that the new bins will save the city more than $130,000 a year because there will be fewer trash pickups necessary.
