Dermatologist to offer free
skin cancer screenings for seniors

Dermatologist Jaldeep Daulat plans to provide free skin cancer screenings from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

Participants must be 65 or older and have a current city of Las Vegas Active Adult Center membership. The cost for membership is $2 and can be purchased at the door.

Daulat, with Las Vegas Skin & Cancer Clinics, is a member of Quality Care IPA, an independent physician association in Southern Nevada.

Skin cancer is the most common form of the disease, accounting for nearly half of all cancers in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society. The most serious form of skin cancer, melanoma, is expected to account for more than 75,000 new cases of skin cancer this year.

Space is limited. Loose-fitting clothing should be worn.

Ski & Snowboard resort raises $2,000 for Volunteer Association

The Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort raised $2,000 for the Spring Mountain Volunteer Association during its annual Festival in the Pines event Aug. 4 at the resort, 6725 Lee Canyon Road on Mount Charleston.

About 575 people attended. This year's donation was the largest the Spring Mountain Volunteer Association has received in the 21-year history of the event, created as a fundraiser to support the nonprofit group.

Guests enjoyed arts and crafts from local vendors, live entertainment, scenic chairlift rides and a visit from the U.S. Forest Service mascot, Smokey Bear. Funds were raised via a raffle for items donated by vendors, and the resort also donated a portion of proceeds generated from its food and beverage sales and scenic chairlift rides during the event.

regional TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION SEEKS INPUT ON 20-YEAR PLAN

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is seeking public input on the region's transportation priorities as it prepares its 20-year Regional Transportation Plan.

The 2013-35 long-range plan is required by the federal government. The plan will be drafted this fall and then made available to the public for further comment. Currently, the transportation commission is asking the public for initial feedback to a survey regarding various planning priorities. The feedback to the survey will be taken into account as the plan is drafted in the upcoming months.

The plan survey is available at rtcsnv.com. Residents can also obtain the survey by emailing stidhama@rtcsnv.com or calling 676-1606. Surveys are also available at the transportation commission's Administrative Office, 600 S. Grand Central Parkway or the Bonneville Transit Center, 101 E. Bonneville Ave. To make a request in Spanish, call 676-1606.

Responses will be accepted through 4 p.m. Sept. 13.

GIRLS ON THE RUN OF LAS VEGAS SEEKS TEAM MEMBERS

Girls on the Run of Las Vegas is looking to start a team of girls in third through fifth grades in northwest Las Vegas and Summerlin.

The group forwards a youth development program, where girls meet twice a week for discussions regarding empowerment, self-confidence and healthy living. The group incorporates stretching, games and running during. At the end of the 12-week program, the Las Vegas chapter gets together for a 5K race.
