PHASE TWO TO OPEN
AT THUNDERBIRD SPORTS COMPLEX

The Thunderbird Family Sports Complex , 6105 N. Durango Drive, is scheduled to open its second phase Feb. 16.

Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross invites the public to an unveiling from 10 a.m. to noon.

In July, the city began phase two on the park . The phase includes landscaping and turf areas, lighted sidewalk extensions, a picnic shade shelter, benches and tables and a quarter-scale F-22 Raptor fighter jet exhibit.

COMMUNITY GARDEN UP AND RUNNING
AT FLOYD LAMB PARK

Dr. Angela O'Callaghan of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension plans to coordinate the community garden at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road, a move that was approved at a Las Vegas City Council meeting this month .

An area near the stables has been graded and water lines installed. Eagle Scouts have built and installed plumbing for 22 planting beds.

The first event, Growing in Small Places, is planned from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 23 . O'Callaghan will teach participants how to plant herbs, vegetables and fruit in small areas or containers. The event is free.

In the future, residents will be able to rent a planting bed.

TEAM HANDBALL TRAINING SCHEDULED

The Centennial Hills YMCA , 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, is offering a team handball training program in conjunction with the Las Vegas Scorpions Team Handball Club.

The program, scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, is free for YMCA members 10 or older.

LAMB OF GOD LUTHERAN CHURCH TO HOST
COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIR SATURDAY

Lamb of God Lutheran Church & School , 6220 N. Jones Blvd., plans to host a community health fair from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday .

Healthy Choices and U is scheduled to include more than 20 local northwest Las Vegas health-related businesses, whose offerings are to include a free neck massage , a free eye screening and foot neuropathy screening , a free hearing screening , free smoothie samples and more.

The event is free to enter, and all who sign in are scheduled to receive a free raffle ticket for prizes.

AT CENTENNIAL HILLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center , 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, plans a $5 candy-making class at 9 a.m. Feb. 8 to make chocolate bon bons.
