Centex Homes conserves

As summer temperatures soar, home buyers are drawn to Centex Homes' energy-efficient home designs, according to Andrew Foote, construction services manager for the home builder.

"Energy conservation is critical in our desert climate," Foote said. "We're constantly evaluating our building practices, energy-efficient features and interior and exterior aesthetics to build the best products with the best value."

New Centex homes bear the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star seal of approval, ensuring at least 15 percent more energy efficiency than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC).

Energy Star-qualified homes can include numerous energy-efficient features, from effective insulation and windows to tight construction and ducts to efficient lighting, appliances and heating and cooling equipment.

"All of our energy-efficient elements work together to reduce heating, cooling and energy losses. The result is lower utility bills," Foote said.

Foote said the builder goes one step further to ensure home energy efficiency with third-party independent energy inspectors.

"They run extensive tests to show we're building what we say we're building. It gives buyers even more confidence in our homes," he said.

Home buyers are very savvy and energy-conscious, according to Foote, but may not realize the savings in purchasing an energy efficient home.

Natural gas service is also part of the builder's package. Homes come with energy-saver insulated gas water heaters and gas ranges for cooking. "Using a mix of gas and electric appliances results in lower energy bills," Foote said.

Home buyers can purchase an energy-efficient Centex home and take advantage of closeout pricing at five North Las Vegas communities -- Aberdeen Falls, Latourell Falls, Traditions, Cantura and Giavanna I.

The builder's sales centers and models are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except Monday when they open at noon.
