Church of Twain: About that intense July heat
August 2, 2009 - 8:25 pm
I read recently that this past July was one of the hottest on record. You’ll get no argument from me. The swelter was relentless.
Saint Mark of Missouri loved to reminisce about his time in Nevada kicking around Virginia City as a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise. But just because he remembered Nevada well doesn’t mean he had a fondness for the place.
In fact, he didn’t think much of the astounding changes in temperature.
In his biography, he wrote, “Some people are malicious enough to think that if the devil were set at liberty and told to confine himself to Nevada Territory, he would ... get homesick and go back to hell again.”
But we claim him as our own.
