CHURCH OF TWAIN: On Baseball

  Saint Mark Twain spoke a little about baseball. In a speech in 1889
he called the game, “The very symbol, the outward and visible
expression of the drive and push, and rush and struggle of the raging,
tearing, booming nineteenth century!”

  Of course, he never saw Oscar Goodman throw a pitch.
