Circus Couture to benefit childhood cancer charities

Leave it to aerial acrobat Erica Linz of Cirque du Soleil’s KA show to put her impressive fundraising efforts in an understated light.

Linz is the inspiration behind the Circus Couture show (7 p.m. Sunday at Rain inside The Palms) that promises not only to turn the town on its head with its fashion show and art auction, but also raise important dollars to benefit St. Baldrick’s and Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases of Las Vegas. St. Baldrick’s is America’s top private fundraiser in the fight to treat and cure childhood cancer.

“If not for St. Baldrick’s I’m not sure if you would know what a good and strong part of the community we are,” Linz says. “Most of our team is not from Las Vegas. But I’m thrilled to see us choosing to set roots and taking pride in the community.”

If the show raises $50,000, St. Baldrick’s will match it in a donation to oncologist Dr. Jonathan Bernstein’s Children’s Center.

Advance tickets are just $35. The ghostbar after party is only $15, and all proceeds benefit the charities.

The annual St. Baldrick’s shave/fundraiser – at which my cancer-beating daughter Amelia cuts my hair – is set to start at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at McMullan’s Irish Pub on Tropicana Avenue.

Other participants this year include Fado on Eastern and Nine Fine Irishmen inside the New York New York. N9NE group is helping to produce Sunday’s show.
