City Councilman attends Paxton Walk ground-breaking event
Steven D. Ross, Las Vegas city councilman of Ward 6, said he was eager to share in the Paxton Walk ground-breaking ceremony.
"I attend when the project is something special like Paxton Walk, which will have quite an impact on the Centennial Hills area," Ross said. 'That something special, of course, is the urban mixed-use design that will enhance not only Ward 6, but the whole city of Las Vegas."
Paxton Walk, in the northwestern Las Vegas Valley, is a community of townhomes, condominiums, shops, boutiques, offices and residential entertainment areas.
The project design includes a town center with shops and restaurants on the first floor, offices on the second floor, and residences on the third and fourth floors.
"I love the eat, shop, live, and play concept of Paxton Walk," Ross said. "After talking to the Blue Marble Development principals, I realized that the home prices are attainable for someone like me -- an electrician -- or anyone who is looking for the convenience of the project's lifestyle."
Ross cites the 2007 ground-breaking ceremony of Paxton Walk as one of the high points of a year that will bring special changes to the Centennial Hills area.
"On July 2, the state handed over the keys to me at Floyd Lamb -- Tule Springs -- park. This is a significant parcel that will be the city's largest park," he said.
The master plan for Floyd Lamb City Park may be accessed online at lasvegasopenspace.com.
"We have some great and ambitious plans for upgrading the park, yet keeping its pristine character," Ross said.
Another special event for Ward 6 is the opening of the Centennial Hills Community Center, scheduled today at 10 a.m. The center is within walking distance of Paxton Walk.
"The community center, a 98,000-square-foot recreation facility, is what I believe to be the largest in the state of Nevada," Ross said. "Special features include two gyms and four swimming pools. Active adults have been given their own separate area that includes amenities such as a kitchen, library and computer room."
He calls the new Centennial Hills Hospital, expected to open in August, "a wonderful new facility and medical office building. A new 10-story, medical office building nearby was approved recently.
Also near Paxton Walk will be the opening of Phase Three of Centennial Hills Park.
"The phase includes wide-open trails, an amphitheater and closer-in hookups for the Farmer's Market," Ross said. "One outstanding feature is a partnership being formed with UNLV for geological and anthropological studies at the riverbed."
Also scheduled to open within the next couple of years are the Great Mall of America, which "is undergoing work on Grand Montecito Parkway, which has to be done first," according to Ross.
"We also have the Clark County Shooting Park at the very end of Decatur Boulevard, which was created through an act of Congress. This world-class shooting facility will attract prime athletes in disciplines such as the biathlon -- an Olympic class event -- and archery and black-powder shooting. Also, a library is under construction on Buffalo Drive, next to Fire Station 5, and should be opening in January '09.
Townhomes at Paxton Walk is a series of 65 townhomes along Slade Avenue, the project's main street. The townhomes are 1,678 and 1,698 square feet. One floor plan has three bedrooms; the other has two bedrooms and a loft. Both have private courtyards and two-car garages.
Courtyards at Paxton Walk (West) offers 175 flats or two-level condominiums in four-story buildings surrounding a garage that offers at-level parking and direct entry to each home. Nine floor plans range from 726 to 1532 square feet.
Paxton Square Town Center is the heart of the mixed-use development. The first story includes 46,000 square feet for retail space with two 7,000-square-foot spaces designed for restaurants. The second story has 50,000 feet of office space. There are 72 one-level and loft homes on the third and fourth floors, which overlook a large 27,000-square-foot courtyard of landscaping, pathways and outdoor dining. Paxton Square is located in the center of the 31-acre development.
Paxton Square Clubhouse is a 9,000-square-foot facility including swimming pools and spas, indoor and outdoor cabana room, game room, catering kitchen, cinema, workshop, business center and rooftop garden. The 3,000-square-foot fitness center will offer state-of-the-art exercise equipment as well as classes for Pilates, cardio and yoga training.
At project's end there will be a total of 717 condominiums located around courtyards or overlooking Slade Avenue. The peninsular design maximizes views of mountains or the Strip and keeps all residents close to the common areas, according to the builder.
Amenities include multiple swimming pools, spas, fitness centers, and recreation areas. The clubhouse also includes a two-story great room, movie theater, billiards room, party rooms, library, and business center.
Prices range from the $200,000s to the $500,000s.
Visit the model home at the sales pavilion, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
To visit, head to the junction of U.S. Highway 95 North and Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway. Paxton Walk sits on the northeast corner. From U.S.-95 North, take Exit 91 with the Beltway East/Buffalo Drive option. Turn right on Sky Pointe Drive. The sales pavilion is on the left.
Blue Marble Development is a subsidiary of Shiron Development, a group that has developed three commercial centers in Las Vegas.
The company has owned the Paxton Walk property for more than nine years and has self-financed the land, design and entitlement fees, as well as made arrangements for a construction loan, according to company officials. For more information about Paxton Walk, visit PaxtonWalk.com.
