Cobb makes it official, running for state senate

Republican Assemblyman Ty Cobb of Reno has officially filed to run for the state senate seat being vacated by Sen. Randolph Townsend, R-Reno.

The filing is noted on the Secretary of State's Web site.

Cobb is viewed as among the most conservative members of the legislature. He was among eight assembly Republicans who voted against the recent bill to balance the state's budget that had a shortfall of nearly $900 million.

Townsend, who will be termed out, is known as a compromiser and worked with Sen. Bill Raggio, R-Reno, other Senate Republicans and legislative Democrats to make the budget deal happen.
