College football coaches’ biggest score on payday
Mike Sanford is out as UNLV’s head football coach, and some dopes believe the Rebels won’t get better until they can afford to pay a new coach substantially more than the $450,000 Sanford dragged down to help the team become a national laughing stock.
Sanford ranks 92nd in the top 100 college football head coaching salaries. Upstate rival UNR – and by rival, I mean the team that usually mops the floor with the Rebels – is led by hall-of-fame coach Chris Ault, who comes in tied for 100th with $375,000 a year.
Here’s the list of the top 100.
Pete Carroll of USC and Charlie Weis of Notre Dame lead the list with $4.2 million annual salaries.
Ault’s Wolf Pack is on its way to a fifth straight bowl appearance. Sanford’s Rebels?
Never mind. But don’t forget to read my column in Tuesday’s Las Vegas Review-Journal anyway.
