Comics store holding party, food drive

Ralph Mathieu’s Alternate Reality Comics has been a UNLV neighborhood institution for 16 years. While other comics stores have come and gone, Mathieu has moved his store a few blocks up Maryland Parkway to a larger location at 4110 S. Maryland Parkway. (Instead of finding him behind a bygone Wendy’s, you now look for the store behind an equally historic Long John Silver’s.)

A grand opening party from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday includes meet-and-greets with artists Jae Lee (“The Dark Tower,” “Inhumans”) from noon to 1 p.m. and Scott Clark and David Beaty (“Brightest Day”) from noon to 3 p.m.

Along with free food, beverages and hourly raffles, those who bring nonperishable food items for the Three Square food bank will receive an extra ticket for the hourly raffles.
