Community posts winner of Most Memorable Summerlin Sam Moment

Snow Day, January 2007, found a disappointed 14-month-old, Cai Kraft, unable to go sledding down the celebrated hill at the Arbors Park with his older brother Logan, 7. According to Cai's mother, Barrie Kraft, Cai was crying uncontrollably and couldn't be consoled -- until he saw Summerlin Sam for the first time.

"He immediately stopped crying and his whole countenance changed," said Kraft, whose family moved here from New York 3 1/2 years ago.

"We spent the entire time playing with this very tall rabbit," she said, "and Cai lights up now every time we mention Summerlin Sam."

The Kraft family photographed and chronicled their experience and entered it into the Most Memorable Summerlin Sam Moment competition.

Other Summerlin families also submitted photos and stories for consideration as this year marked the competition's inception in the search for residents' most memorable encounters with the 7-foot-tall jackrabbit mascot.

For their winning entry, the Kraft family will receive a deluxe Summerlin Sam-themed birthday party for up to 25 children at one of the master-planned community centers. The party package, a $1,200 value, includes custom invitations, games, T-shirts, prizes, lunch, cake and -- a visit from Summerlin Sam.

"We couldn't imagine living anywhere else in Las Vegas," said Kraft of her family's move from New York with husband, Kevin, and son, Logan. Since moving to the community, the Kraft family has nearly doubled with the addition of Cai, now 16 months, and daughter, Brooklyn, 3 months.

"Las Vegas has been very good to us in terms of my husband's professional success, and Summerlin has been even better to our family. We love how our community looks and how it lives. We notice a marked difference when we leave it."

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc., Summerlin is a 22,500-acre master-planned community located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley.
