Cottages of Green Valley offers residents care, activities, benefits

There are many benefits for residents living in the Cottages of Green Valley as well as their family members. The Cottages of Green Valley is an assisted living and memory care community located at 2620 Robindale Road, just west of Pecos Road. Since opening in 2002, the community is now home to about 92 residents.
"One way that we offset some of the expenses is by eliminating the need to buy gas," said Trudy Andrews, administrator for the Cottages of Green Valley. "Meals are prepared here for residents, so there is no running back and forth to the grocery store.
"In addition, there is no need to worry about going to the doctor since we have a bus which provides the service for our residents. Then, too, the 24-hour care staff is invaluable when you consider how much it might cost to have someone stay with an individual in need." The cost of living at the Cottages of Green Valley also includes utilities and cable television.
"When you think about the services that we provide at the Cottages of Green Valley, it adds up to substantial savings every month," Andrews said.
Among the residents who has recognized the savings and safety provided by the Cottages of Green Valley is Sibyl Garcia, who has been a resident for almost one year.
"I fell while going from the bathroom to the bedroom while living at my home in Yuma, Ariz., and could not get back up," Garcia said. "I was on the floor for 10 hours and that really scared me. I would have had to hire someone to stay with me day and night, and we have that sort of care here at the Cottages.
"I love everything here. The caregivers are great, and so are the meals. I don't have to leave the Cottages to have special dinners, movie nights and live entertainment. The activity program is fabulous. I have no complaints whatsoever here. I also must say that I like the security of having a care staff provided here at night."
According to Garcia, another benefit is that the Cottages has one group of physicians that visit residents each week.
"I can see the doctor here anytime I want to," Garcia said. "The doctor is great. He comes here, and visits us. He is more like friend than a doctor."
The Cottages has gained attention because of its unique living style, which includes all single-story residences.
Each resident is provided meals three times a day. A significantly higher caregiver ratio than average insures attention for residents, which averages 83.5 years of age. There are 12 residents in each cottage at Cottages of Green Valley.
Additionally, the Cottages have two activity directors for a community of less than 100 residents.
The facility has five memory care cottages and four assisted living cottages.
