Couple chooses Prominence at Aliante

Freddie and Lillian Sherman purchased a two-story, five-bedroom Astoria Homes residence in the Prominence neighborhood of Aliante in North Las Vegas.

Working as correctional officers in Southern California, the couple met on the job more than 15 years ago and were married just over a month later.

"When you know, you just know," Freddie said with a smile. "No sense wasting time."

The Shermans had that same attitude when they discovered what would become their new Astoria home, the Prominence Residence 225. Upon relocating from California, the couple had purchased a home in another Astoria neighborhood and were pleased with it, they said.

"We were thinking about building a home in Arizona, but decided to stay in Southern Nevada," Lillian Sherman said. "So we looked at a variety of neighborhoods and communities, with Astoria Homes at the top of our list. We heard about Prominence and Aliante in a mailer from Astoria Homes, so we came out -- took a tour of Aliante and the homes at Prominence -- and fell in love with both the homes and the community."

The Shermans said Aliante was a big attraction for them, with its championship golf course, three city parks, 24-mile trail system, library and other amenities.

"This is a wonderful area to live in," Freddie Sherman said.

The Shermans' 4,449-square-foot home features five bedrooms, 41/2 baths, an owners' retreat, bonus room, flex space, courtyard and three-car garage.

Walking into the grand foyer, a visitor immediately notices the furnishings that accentuate the double staircase and 23-foot ceiling. Lillian Sherman's handiwork is on display all around. She sews and knits her own pillows, curtains and rugs.

Freddie said his pride and joy is the flex space he converted into an entertainment room/movie theater where he hosts viewing parties with family and friends.

"We love entertaining, this house was meant for entertaining," he said. "We have parties and hang out in the family room because the kitchen is right there and Lillian and I love to cook. We have a home where our family and friends always feel welcome."

Aliante is a development of North Valley Enterprises LLC, an affiliate of American Nevada Co. and Pulte Homes. Encompassing more than 1,900 acres, the community will collectively have more than 6,500 homes with an anticipated population of about 20,000 when it's complete.

Home builders selling at Aliante, in addition to Astoria, include Del Webb, KB Home, Lennar, Pardee Homes and Pulte Homes. House prices range from the mid-$200,000s to the upper $400,000s.

In addition, Del Webb is building the age-qualified Sun City Aliante community.

Information regarding new homes and neighborhoods in the master plan can be obtained at the Aliante Information Gallery. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
