Del Webb to build third community center at Henderson’s Sun City Anthem
May 6, 2007 - 9:00 pm
Del Webb has finalized plans for a third activities center within its age-qualified Sun City Anthem community.
The facility will incorporate an environmentally friendly design with amenities that are new to the age-qualified community.
The center will be built in the southern portion of the community, about half a mile from Anthem Center and Independence Center, the first two facilities.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September with completion as early as July 2008, according to Nick Parks, director of marketing for Del Webb Nevada.
Parks said the center has been designed as "something unique and different for residents to enjoy."
"Given the size of Sun City Anthem, which measures more than three square miles, we long ago planned to add a satellite facility that would bring some of the more popular amenities, such as the fitness centers and the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, closer to residents in the newer areas of the community," Parks said.
"The recreation center will resemble a mountain range with peaks and valleys. It is a very innovative, very geometrical design that will blend in very well with the surrounding environment," he said.
The community's first facility, Anthem Center, measures more than 70,000 square feet and offers a fitness and wellness center, indoor walking track, areas for games and card players, business center, computer lab, library, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, conference rooms, ballroom and Trumpets restaurant.
It is situated along the community's two golf courses and offers views of the Las Vegas Valley.
Next door, Independence Center features more than 30,000 square feet of workshops and rooms for specialized activities.
The third facility will measure more than 20,000 square feet and bring a mix of familiar and new amenities to Sun City Anthem, including bocce, tennis and pickle ball courts; sun deck; barbecue area; dog park; locker rooms and kitchen area.
Additionally, the center's design includes an expanded multi-purpose room and a second room, which may be divided with partitions into three smaller spaces.
"The new center is set up for individual homeowners to use for large parties or other occasions, but may also be used for larger functions," Parks said.
"It includes areas that are more informal in nature, complementing the more formal spaces such as the auditorium, which are located in the previous two recreation centers."
According to Parks, the building is designed to qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
LEED is a nationally recognized standard for construction as established by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The new activities center will be one of a handful of buildings in the Las Vegas Valley targeting this environmentally friendly standard, according to Parks.
"Pulte Homes has a lengthy track record of building to a higher standard," he said.
"All of our new homes exceed the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star program, many of them by a considerable margin. By doing so, we are not only helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through lower energy consumption, but we are also helping to reduce utility costs for our home buyers," Parks said.
All new homes within Sun City Anthem are constructed with Environments for Living building technology, with blown-in cellulose insulation, conditioned attic spaces, 15 SEER air-conditioning units and dual-paned, vinyl-framed low-e windows.
According to the builder, homeowners benefit from decreased internal and external contaminants, increased indoor air quality, decreased heating and cooling usage and increased comfort, durability and tightness.
A total of 12 floor plans in three collections are available at Sun City Anthem.
Measuring from 1,496 to 3,175 square feet, the two- to three-bedroom homes with two to 3 1/2 baths are priced from $312,990 to $539,990.
Fewer than 250 homes remain for sale in the community, which will ultimately comprise more than 7,000 residences.
